CMC and MCH Explore Affiliation - Monadnock Community Hospital

Sharing a common commitment to providing high quality and value-based care for the benefit of their communities and building upon the foundation of a long history of collaboration together, Catholic Medical Center (“CMC”) and Monadnock Community Hospital (“MCH”) have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (“LOI”) to explore an affiliation which will result in a more fully integrated, New Hampshire-based healthcare system.

“CMC and MCH have been working together for many years to improve access to cardiology and vascular care to patients in the Monadnock region. More recently, we have expanded our clinical partnership with CMC to include neurology and have been sharing hospitalists and laboratory services” said Cynthia McGuire, President & CEO of MCH.

“This next step of organizational collaboration will enable greater utilization of collective resources and expertise which will improve the quality, cost and access to care as well as enhance overall patient satisfaction” said Dr. Joseph Pepe, President & CEO of CMC.

In early 2015 MCH requested proposals from numerous healthcare organizations as potential partners for affiliation. CMC was viewed as the best organization to affiliate with because past experiences and partnerships were positive and demonstrate a record of shared culture, values and successful collaboration.

Maintaining each organization’s respective charitable missions, values and traditions is also a priority. “The LOI proposes a structure which will permit CMC and MCH to each operate much in the same way that they have been operating,” explains Dr. Pepe. “MCH will continue operating as a secular, non-profit community hospital, and CMC will continue operating as a Catholic, non-profit acute healthcare system.

“We have successfully met the healthcare needs of the Monadnock region for 90 years and we are excited to take the next step to ensure we are well-positioned to keep quality healthcare close to home for years to come,” noted Ms. McGuire.

The next steps in the affiliation process include the negotiation of a definitive agreement, a mutual due diligence process, final approval of the respective hospital boards and, with respect to CMC, the approval of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Manchester. There is a state and federal regulatory approval process as well. Throughout this process there will be numerous opportunities for comment by the general public and stakeholders of both hospitals. CMC and MCH are working diligently to complete the affiliation within the next 12 months.

ABOUT CMC: CMC is 330-bed acute care hospital located in Manchester, New Hampshire with 2,500 employees and over 700 physicians, specialists and other providers working together to serve the health care needs of patients in Manchester and throughout New Hampshire. CMC is home to the nationally recognized New England Heart & Vascular Institute and is a Truven Analytics “Top 50 in the Nation” Cardiovascular Hospital. Monadnock Community Hospital is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital offering medical, surgical and Intensive Care, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Mental Health services. In addition, a wide variety of outpatient services are available, including an extensive Primary Care Network, Wellness, Cardiac and Physical Rehabilitation Services, 24-hour Emergency Care, a fully equipped laboratory and an extensive Radiology department.
